Mid-century furniture (ii) : Made where?

All Danish modern furniture is not created equal. Some of it is made in Denmark, others were made in North America. The Danish furniture is normally marked using a control-stamp, of the form:

In the 1950’s, North American manufacturers obtained licenses to mass-produce Danish modern designs, hence the large availability on the 2nd-hand market today. If you can’t find a makers mark, or a control stamp, then chances are that it was made in North America.

This website will help ID that vintage Danish modern piece.

There are a number of good retailers selling Danish modern furniture in Canada:

Scandinavian Modern – From Winnipeg, an excellent range of vintage furniture.
The Fabulous Find – From Victoria, furniture and lighting
Sugar Barrel Antiques – Vancouver (has an Etsy store)
Guff Furniture – A mid-century dealer (Toronto)
Vintage Home Boutique – Excellent selection of classic Mid-century furniture (Toronto)
